PODCAST
A Podcast is an MP3 or other audio file delivered off a Web site via a RSS feed.
Podcast is derived from, the terms "iPod" and "broadcast".  It is attributed to the original creator of podcasting who used iPods to listen to their RSS boradcasts.  Then Apple added an RSS reader to the iTunes software, making it simple for anyone with an iPod to subscribe and listen to podcasts.  All you need to know is the URL of the RSS or XML.

If your library did a podcast of their storytime activity it would be available for your child to view again if they particularily enjoyed a session.
FACEBOOK  was created in February 2004 by a Harvard student as a social networking web site for college students to stay in touch.  It gained huge success immediately. Several months after FACEBOOK was invented, an important feature,GROUPS, was added for the convenience of sharing similar topics of interest among members.  Since then FACEBOOK groups have been heavily utilized.
Upon registration, any person can create a GROUP and invite members that are either just his/her friends, people in a network.

FACEBOOK could be useful for libraries by notifying new library services and events and notifying members of new books.

Wiki      -       means quick in Hawaiian.
Wikis have been around since the mid 1990s, but only recently has the general public become aware of their existence.  Some of the more popular Wikipedia entries have been edited hundreds of times by dozens of people.
Some Wikis are open to everyone.  This can become problematic when spammers or malicious people vandalize entries, but they are usually quickly fixed by concerned members of the wiki community.

It can be difficult for people to get used to the idea of a website that anyone is allowed to add to or edit.  The notion of private property is so deeply embedded in our society that it's difficult to imagine going into someone else's webstie and changing things, even when we are invited to.

Many libraries have been working to make themselves a physical hub of the community.  With community programming and useful workshops, libraries have attracted people to library who may otherwise have never visited.

Some shots of Sarge around the yard.
Sarge and Grouchos backyard.

Look how big Sarge is now.  He weighs nearly 30kgs.  He is a very good boy, and mostly does what he is told.
Shallini has just given me a vet check, and I am fine.  Sarge is also fighting fit.
